Sin ad Moriarty brings us a thought provoking and heart wrenching story of love, loss and family Kate, mother of three, is forced to deal with the break up of her marriage Her husband had an affair and moved out, deciding to marry the other woman The first part of the story shows us how Kate and the children cope with this, the impact this has on the children, and how they all pull together to support one another. The bonds between the siblings is very strong, and even though they act out in diff [...]

Really enjoyed the book even though it was sad most of the time The characters were relatable and well made It s a shame that no one really caught a break but that s what made it realistic as well.

Holy crap This was an amazing book Do NOT read unless you want to cry and have a full box of tissues handy Or maybe two Seriously. At the very beginning, I struggled to get into this, but I m honestly not sure if that was the book or just me as I was feeling incredibly antsy when I started this It took a bit of getting tossed from one character s perspective to another without warning before I was able to sink into the flow But once I was there, I did not want to put it down, even for the needed [...]

This was my first book by this Sinead Moriarty The story was wonderful, horribly sad, but still wonderful The character development was excellent The dialogue between family members was so well written it was heartbreaking Though a few of the situations were a reach, the major ones provided insight into real world dilemmas Some of the minor characters provided comic relief I look forward to reading of Moriarty s books This would be a good selection for a book club.

This book completely disappointed me I read it based on the high rating a rating which usually is accurate I found it trite, repetitive and akin to a Danielle Steele type novel There are so many predictable scenes e.g the white butterfly appearing at the birth of the baby and the son scoring a try in the last minute of the rugby final etc Nonetheless, it is an easy read albeit a very forgettable one which focused on a tired subject matter.

Probably should have been a tear jerker, but it dragged a little in spots for me.

Emotionally an unparalleled journey This novel starts off commonly enough with the breakup of a family through a difficult divorce It s relevant and honest in it s realistic view and grabs you from the start, especially if you re a child of divorce or have become a single parent through it And that s just the beginning of a fabulous and heartwarming, heartbreaking journey as Kate, Luke, Jess, Bobby and even Nick an extended cast of equally as well developed and colorful cast of characters that f [...]

The Good Mother is a beautifully written poignant story, which brought me to tears, made me laugh and touched my soul Kate was devastated when her husband Nick left her Being broke, homeless and betrayed, though, was not the worse of Kate s heartaches not even close The news of her twelve year old daughter, Jess, the peacemaker of the family, being diagnosed with Leukemia was what brought Kate to her knees Luke, the eldest son, was crushed over his sister s diagnosis On top of that, though, he w [...]

This book deals with a very painful subject not only about health scares but also about the changes each person in a family goes through during a divorce You could feel Kate s despair at the destruction of her marriage but she somehow stayed strong and didn t count on Nick She was strong in some ways, but so very weak too She accepted all that Nick did and didn t lash out, even though I feel she should have.Nick, her husband, was a very unlikeable character There was no redeeming his lack of par [...]

This is an excellent read It is smoothly and expertly written strong, precise vocabulary and wording along with thorough revising for clarity and careful editing for mundane structural errors The plot is complex, intricately weaving several story lines into a whole story The themes the novel explores are deep and thought provoking the characters are fully developed and compelling I became totally absorbed in this read and hated for it to end I understand that this novel has also been published u [...]

What an emotional rollercoaster. This book appeared to start slowly but oh boy did it make up for it All the characters were so strongly portrayed ,each of them an individual apart from the twins that is.This was such a sad story but there was laughter and love in there too I especially loved Bobby s diary entries especially the one about the immaculate conception Who would want to teach even year olds about that nowadays Such a difficult subject to write about but some humour to lighten it up.

    Eileen
I loved this book I bawled at the end Such a masterpiece of writing Sinead Moriarty takes you into the novel and there is no leaving Her style of writing is lovely With this book, you get an idea of every character s feelings and their emotions It s one of those books you won t forget in a rush It focuses on such a sensitive subject matter but is written just right It explores the human mind and morals Also there is some of the Irish humour thrown in for good measure I really would recommend thi [...]
