Once again Christine Lindsay sweeps the reader away on an exotic, riveting journey to faraway India a land of exquisite, mystical beauty, but one of extreme political and religious unrest as well Ms Lindsay s amazing descriptive imagery of this resplendent, beautiful country will awaken the readers senses to the sights, smells, and allure of Indiabut her impeccable historical research describes the flip side of the coin as well The atrocities and prejudices suffered by the Indian people under th [...]

Veiled at Midnight is a strong conclusion to Christine Lindsay s Twilight of the British Raj series If you haven t read the previous two books, you can jump in here and understand everything, but Cam s and Miriam s back stories do contain spoilers for the other books And it s a series well worth reading in its entirety.Cam was a young child in book 1, Shadowed in Silk, and Miriam is his younger sister Now adults, he s in the army and she s a teacher The year is 1946 the place, India These are th [...]

This is book 3 in this series and now the characters we met in the first book Shadowed in Silk have grown up and are now working in India as the country is in riots and the British returning the rule of the country. We see mass murders and crimes against each other in the name of religion, heart breaking, and unfortunately it is still happening in our world This is where Pakistan is in the making, and the muslims fighting to have their country without the rule of India. We are reminded of our belo [...]

Title Veiled at Midnight Twilight of the British Raj 3 Author Christine LindsayPages 278Year 2014Publisher WhiteFireMy rating is 5 stars. Here is the final book of the trilogy, which is by far the best of the best We are introduced to India, her people, politics, religious sects, and flavors of food and that excite the heart When I started reading the book a couple of hours ago, part of me was sad because it was the last novel of the series I enjoyed the constant adventure and action, friendship [...]

I read this book over a long, stretched out period of time Two things to note 1 It was kind of easy to set the story aside, but 2 the heart of the story stuck with me enough to help me jump back in again even after being away for a while The research involved in composing this story is definitely evident, and the setting time period are unique choices for Christian fiction I found the plot a little complex and the politics a little over my head, but the relationship matters are weighty, meaningf [...]

I had the privilege of reading an advanced reader copy of Veiled at Midnight for endorsement I loved Veiled at Midnight and the two earlier books in the Twilight of the British Raj series, Shadowed in Silk and Captured by Moonlight A beautiful and heartbreaking story of love and hope during the turbulent political and religious upheaval of post WWII India Highly recommended

Veiled at Midnight is based on a riveting part of history that I ve read too little about Lindsay s characters, ordinary at first, rise out of the drama, finding extraordinary courage they little suspected they possessed Complex relationships and deep emotional lives made this a novel that stayed with me long after I put it down Gritty yet tender, realistic yet larger than life, with a beautiful spiritual takeaway, the novel is historical fiction at its finest, in my opinion.

This book, like all of Lindsay s book, was captivating Meticulously researched, she takes us into the partition of India Against this backdrop of chaos and anarchy we watch Cam struggle to find his wife who disappears when she believes her marriage had been faked. Not only does Lindsay create a dramatic world, she does it with a writing finesse few have She is an author to watch.

Veiled in Midnight is the final book in the Twilight of the British Raj Series Captured by Moonlight book 2 has previously been reviewed on this blog If you wish to see that review, follow this link.Although you could read this novel as a stand alone book, I would suggest that it would be better to read the entire series from the beginning as there are themes that stretch from one book to the other throughout the series Each book introduces new characters and leaves others behind, but there are [...]

Some novels are romances Others are mysteries, or suspense novels, or historical, or inspirational Veiled at Midnight, by Christine Lindsay, is all of the above Technically the book is classified as a romance novel, and a romance does run through the plotline, sophisticated and relationally deeper than some modern romances But I think the romance in Veiled at Midnight plays second fiddle, or even third, to two other elements of the story Of all the elements, I would put its historical perspecti [...]

Christine Lindsay s final installment in her Twilight of the British Raj series, Veiled at Midnight, is the perfect capstone to a lovely string of historical novels set in India during the end of British control The author paints a striking picture using reds, greens and golds, mixed with the scents of jasmine and cloves, and the rich heritage of the Indian people and their struggle for freedom and then reconstruction Her characters are deep and affected Both Cam and Miriam strive to find a home [...]

Veiled at Midnight is set in the final days of British rule in India, a time of uncertainty as the country moved towards self government after two hundred years It was also a time of political unrest due to the spectre of Partition the division of India into two countries based on religion It s a fascinating backdrop, and one that really adds to the plot.Veiled at Midnight is the third book in Christine Lindsay s Twilight of the British Raj series It s set a generation on from the first two book [...]

Wow, this one grabbed hold of me and had me flying through the pages I was on the edge of my seat through most of this novel all the way until the end The characters and the circumstances of their lives were so well fleshed out and absolutely compelling I have to say, Veiled at Midnight, is the crowning glory of the series at least to me I absolutely loved this one In fact, I was in such a rush to get through and see what became of all the characters, I think I may need to read this one again YE [...]

Veiled at Midnight is a historical suspense novel set in 1946 to 1947 in India It s the third in a series You don t have to read the previous books to follow this one, but this book revealed major events from book one and how the romance turned out in book two.The historical details about the 1947 Partition of India were interesting and added suspense as the characters repeatedly found themselves caught up in the violence and rioting The characters were interesting, and several changed and grew [...]

The history that has been in this series was very fascinating, but especially in this one I did not realize that India had such a tumultuous and at times sad history I learned quite a bit of the unrest that was just among the Indian people during the time period Christine wrote in even if this story was fictional I really enjoyed the banter between Miriam and Jack It brought such a light heartedness that I desperately needed in this book I felt this one had the most descriptive violence out of a [...]

There are some books that stick with you Christine Lindsay s first books in the series were some of those When I saw there was a third, I just had to read it You will be transported to India, during the British Indian conflicts I learned so much about the history of the time period, while seeing it through the characters eyes These people are not without faults The book is a bit gritty in places, talking about struggles with alcoholism, prejudice, and bloodshed It is not a book for a teen to rea [...]
