I received a review copy of this book for my stop on the blog tour at Donnie Darko Girl The Silver Sickle is a novel full of action, romance, and suspense The story is told in third person with chapters alternating between the three main characters Farissa, Zel, and Gira Dyn has always been Farissa s home, and when she was very young, she was chosen to one day be harvested by the Amar, a race of alien goddesses who are revered by the people of Dyn She appreciates the life she has and lives it to [...]

THE SILVER SICKLE has it all adventure, humor, romance, and end of the world tension Add in the life sucking aliens who masquerade as goddesses and the clockwork soldiers with unsurpassable loyalty, and you get an epic tale that stands out as original and unforgettable The story is told from the POVs of Gira, Zel, and Farissa Gira is the leader of the Amar, the alien race that is secretly incubating their young to take over Earth As much as I wanted to hate Gira, I found myself sympathizing with [...]

If you want star crossed love in a time of steam, gears, and aliens, the Silver Sickle is the book for you.It s rough when your parents are murdered, worse when the killer is an alien goddess who has royal permission to take human sacrifices Teenage Farissa is marked for the privilege of harvesting, which is worse than it sounds She intends to live her little remaining time to the fullest, riding horses, not letting anyone push her around, and trying not to entangle the heart of Zel, an apprenti [...]

I received a comp copy of this book, and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised Why Not because I had any doubts about the author this is the first of her books I ve ever read , but because this genre of book is a far cry from all the humor and YA I usually enjoy with my free time, and I was sucked into the story right away.Ellie Ann has built a complex world in Dyn, but the elements of loyalty, romance, and fear of large alien beings who could rip one s face off are things most readers can re [...]

If I could rename The Silver Sickle, I would probably call it The Unfinished Silver Sickle Kiss, mainly due to the reason that the story focuses on a silver sickle and an unfinished kiss between 2 of the 3 main characters Zel and Farissa. To be honest, I was expecting cyborgs and blood and gore, even then I knew that this is a steampunk novel, not horror Really, I was That robot on the cover Cyborgs That sickle essentially a farming tool Lots of killing Perhaps cyborgs are taking over the world, [...]

I came to The Silver Sickle with no particular expectations The author Ellie Ann had asked if I would consider reviewing it and the synopsis sounded like it had potential But in these scenarios you really never know what you re going to get.In this case what I got was a book that is well worth reading. The Silver Sickle bills itself is steampunk and that s true if you use the descriptors broadly It could also be classified as science fantasy I think It s also billed as Young Adult, but that s rat [...]

Farissa is consecrated, and that means that one day quite soon, she will be taken to the Silver Sickle to be harvested This is what the Amar, the alien Godesses, have a sacrifice to ensure that they the steam power going and the armies away.Zel loves Farissa, and is determined that she can be saved from her fate, because those that go to the Silver Sickle never return The Amar say that they will be reincarnated as Amar, but deep down, Zel does not believe that Zel has discovered a secret that th [...]

I had a little difficulty with this review because I am acquainted with the author and I recently saw her sister at the coffee shop who told me that the book was great and I should read it All of that set me up to seem obstinately contradictory or excessively supportive Anyway, I cannot claim total objectivity I had an initial difficulty with the book because it struck me as a strange melding of a steam driven society of 200 years ago complete with kings and subjects Yet, the cogmen I did not no [...]

I had the pleasure of reading this on the plane on my way to Atlanta, and when we landed I nearly refused to leave until I finished What a fascinating story It has a real steampunk vibe, but it s not Victorian To be honest I couldnt tell you what planet it takes place on because it felt so very foreign to everything I know In a good way.I should probably explain that The culture consists of humans, who live their lives and work and play all in the shadow of goddesses who steal away girls to be c [...]

This is one of those books that reminds you how precious it is when someone comes up with a new idea, rather than re spinning an idea already out there The Silver Sickle reads like an epic high fantasy mixed with dystopia, but has those all important elements of steampunk.I really enjoyed it, my only criticism and this is just something quite random is that there is a killing machine in the book called the Wagon Wheel and every time I read this I couldn t help but snigger as in the UK this is a [...]

I thoroughly enjoyed this book a couple months ago and felt compelled to circle back around and provide a review Where this tale shines is in what is ultimately a good versus evil saga with various factions keeping pace throughout the book Initially I felt like I was reading a book based off of a video game with my mental imagery of the Amar and some of the fight scenes which were in turn a joy to read The video game stigma soon fell to the wayside as I began to become enad with this steampunk w [...]

I know a lot of people are calling The Silver Sickle steampunk, but not me It s science fiction and 1980s fantasy yum To me, there was something of The Blue Sword by Robin McKinley style of things There was the strong heroine the hero who isn t out to change the world, just save those he loves the richly imagined world and the moral dilemmas. The moral dilemmas are interesting and well developed The science fiction element brings in intriguing possibilities that Ellie Ann twists and turns unexpec [...]

I wanted to give The Silver Sickle five stars, because I really enjoyed reading it, and isn t that the point The thing is it seems like a great book that just wasn t quiteed There s a good deal of unnecessary or repetitive description, especially as relates to Farissa and Zel s thoughts, and extra especially as regards their thoughts about each other a lot of time is spent worrying and pining without it really leading anywhere But again, that s merely what keeps me from giving this the best poss [...]

First up, the Amar are creepy.Secondly, this book is essentially a study of humanity and the kind of behaviours that we would and historically have commit in the presence of superior beings and their technology. It s a good story, full of suspense, terror and a pace that drags you quickly from the start to the middle of the story without realising you ve been reading for three hours.I would love to see of these kinds of stories I thoroughly enjoy them.5 5

Ellie Ann builds a world filled with aliens where humans are not the dominant species The descriptions are complete without being excessive, allowing the reader room to use their imagination.Read full review in the November 2013 issue of InD tale Magazine.

I reviewed The Silver Sickle on We Do Write as part of a book tour hosted through Xpresso Book Tours Check it out on the blog I liked it a lot.

This was just fascinating Interesting characters, a unique culture somewhat Persian steampunk influenced by two different alien races , and an ominous prophecy about the end of humanity Ellie Ann has woven an interesting and fascinating tapestry with this story it was a pleasure to read.

Really enjoyed this book Had a steampunk flavor, but not overly so, with a good sci fi integration as well Really enjoyed the world building I hope the author revisits this world In particular, I d love the origin story of the cogsmen.

First foray into Steampunk Genre, thoroughly enjoy the story telling.

When your friend sends you a manuscript to review and you ve overloaded yourself with an inconsistent reading pattern peppered over three dozen half finished books, time passes Eighteen months, as it turns out.Plus a month delay for writing this review.I started The Silver Sickle when Ellie sent it in February 2013 Started it again in April Read about a page at a time for the first six months I had it, and read them on my phone that was the quickest way for me to side load the book, but probably [...]

I received a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.I ve never been a hardcore fan of YA, I loved some books but most of the time it was just okay for me This book is one of those that I liked If you love YA Fantasy then this book is for you It has adventure, romance, a solid storyline, and sometimes, humor The book has some steampunk elements in it although I can t really consider the book in that genre because of a different setting. For thousands of years, humans have been worship [...]

This review and can be found at The A P Book Club The Silver Sickle is a wonderful mix of sci fi, romance, steampunk cyberpunk, and good vs evil There s action, adventure, secrets, romance, aliens, and all kinds of things that make a story great Once I got a few chapters in, I was sucked into this world and the characters and had a hard time putting this book down There is quite a bit of world building, and I felt like it was enough to know a little bit about the structure of the world and why [...]

Start with a Middle East inspired world named Dyn Give it a king with a harem, tasty cuisine, sickles, all that good stuff Now add alien goddesses who have ruled for hundreds thousands of years, regularly harvesting consecrated girls and bringing them to the mysterious Silver Sickle Also throw in steampunk cogsmen, clockwork robots who obey the orders of the king but also the alien goddesses, the Amar Let s also have best friends turned lovers in the middle of this trying to save the damn world. Okay So I m going to be honest here I don t remember why I signed up to review this book The cover doesn t blow me away and the synopsis doesn t draw me in BUT I am SO glad I did This book was completely what I was in mood for It is sci fi at its best with a healthy dose of steampunk. The world building is impeccable Without any kind of an info dump, Ann is able to paint a fascinating picture of a future world, where aliens and sentient robots are a reality I bought into the story without a momen [...]

Steampunk An interesting read from a small indie press Despite good editing, a lack of polishing in the world details clearly shows the difference between big and small publishers in this book I enjoyed the fast paced story, but I ve got a number of issues Would give 2.5 stars if possible, debated on giving 3.First you are thrown right in the action, which creates a great deal of confusion in a unique and complicated world like Silver Sickle Adding a few chapters to the beginning of the book to [...]

Beautiful and wily Farissa has been one a leash all of her life as one the Consecrated Her city s king and kingdom worship the humanoid aliens that rule and live side by side humans Deadly and having built the combined cultures of human worship with some tune of human freewill, the aliens keep the charade of living cohesively while planning the end of humanity After a terrible fight and loss, Farissa is taken into the human King s harem with the other virgin and beautiful Consecrated girls There [...]
